Kaiji 2 Review

For someone like me who doesn’t follow manga, I certainly did enjoy myself during the movie even though I wasn’t very sure what the story is about.

Also, I understand that Kaiji 2 is a sequel (duh!) it’s actually quite easy to follow without having watched the prior movie.

In the movie, Tatsuya Fujiwara plays the main character Kaiji Ito and he looks even younger than in person! The wonders of lighting and make up.

Anyway, there were many funny dialogue throughout the movie to the point it felt like I was watching a comedy instead. :) Needless to say, there were a couple of scenes in the movie where I felt myself tense up in anxiety for the characters in the movie.

The movie also attempts to get a bit philosophical at some points via the thoughts running through the character’s mind. I’m not sure why but when the girl in the movie “Hiromi” did a moral debate in her head, I was quite irritated with her. I was like, “Hurry up and make your decision already!”

Another thing I note in the movie is how when the key characters cry, they cry complete with snot dripping from their noses. That’s not something you’ll find in a Hollywood film. And that’s something I actually like about Asian movies simply because they can pull it off without looking like complete wimps.

I have digressed. Anyway, I’d say Kaiji 2 is a pretty good movie and quite worth watching.

Kaiji 2 opens islandwide (Singapore) on 17 November 2011.
