The Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral Experience Post Mortem

Disclaimer: While the costs of the trip was covered by MTV Asia (I think), all comments and opinions are in NO WAY dictated by MTV Asia or Aloft Kuala Lumpur/Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

Once again, I would like to thank the awesome and nice people at MTV Asia and Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral (Aloft KL Sentral) for the brilliant weekend stay.

With that sorted, here we go with some highlights of the Aloft KL Sentral hotel for me.

Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral

As I have mentioned in my previous post about the “Live at Aloft Hotels” post, I practically missed like the whole set for The Light Fantastic because of the flight delay out of Singapore and a mess up at the baggage claim in KLIA. Booooo.

It was quite a shame really, the W XYZ bar is really very nice and cozy. Very good for an intimate acoustic session.

Anyway, when I got into the room, I was greeted by this (ignore my bags, lol):

Check out the view of my room:

The first thing I noticed about the room was how spacious it was. Also, I really like how the entire hotel and rooms are have a modern, clean and sleek finishing. Also, I couldn’t help noticing how well designed the room was and how there were so many power sockets placed in convenient spots for you to charge your mobile devices.

There’s also a whole bunch of plugs at the wall where you can borrow the cable from the “Aloha Desk” (ie front desk) to watch stuff from your mobile devices on the TV in the room.

Also, I like the toilet design as well. I don’t have a good photo of the toilet because I can’t get a good angle but really, I really like the space utilization in toilet area a lot. However, I didn’t really like how the clothing rack bar was perpendicular to the width to the wardrobe. It wasn’t very functional at that position. Would have preferred for the bar to be parallel to the width instead.

HINT: you can actually request for a room of different artwork if you have been a guest with Aloft KL Sentral previously!

After I was done settling into my room, I popped down to Nook, the in-house restaurant for a late dinner.

A “cabin” @ Nook, Aloft KL Sentral. Fun fact: the green carpet in the “cabins” are made from horse fur, the most durable carpet material in the world.

In the 4 days and 3 nights stay at Aloft KL Sentral, I tried various items on the food menu and I highly recommend the Wagyu Beef Rendang (RM 48.00 nett) and the Sarawak Laksa (RM26.00 ~ RM28.00 nett or so, I forgot). I’m drooling as I type the names of the dish. I am not kidding. It is really, really that good.

HINT: There a special/secret menu at Nook where you can try their award winning dish: Smoked scallop semai sushi duck confit.

Click on the image of the menu to see the full res version of the menu. I really like the organic saba noodle version of the Sarawak Laksa. Soooo gooooood. And just so you know, if you want to try this special menu, it’s best to order at least a day in advance because the duck confit takes about 4 hours to prepare.

Another highlight of the Aloft Hotel for me was the infinity pool on the rooftop.

The place looks AMAZING in the day. Check out it out at night!

Breathtaking isn’t it? Also, at night, the rooftop bar, Mai Bar comes alive and you can choose to chill by the pool or in the pool.

In all, I think Aloft KL Sentral is amazing! How the whole hotel is wifi enabled with free wifi definitely is a very large plus point in me coming to this conclusion. LOL.

Besides, it is a really good place to stay if you want to have a chilled-out getaway from Singapore. The environment surrounding KL Sentral isn’t as noisy and messy like the Bukit Bintang/KLCC area. It is also really convenient to get there as it is just a 28 minute KLIA Express (RM 35.00 one way) ride from KLIA.

If you want to go shop for a bit, KLCC is just 4 or 5 stops away by Putra (RM 1.60 one way), Mid-Valley is 1 stop away (RM 1.00 one way) by KTM and Bukit Bintang is a few stops away via the Monorail.

Definitely a place I’d recommend if you want a quick getaway with a few friends or if you are a family unit with kids in the primary school age.

“Live at Aloft Hotels” Amplified by MTV at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral Post Mortem

First up, I must thank the awesome and nice people at MTV Asia (Viacom International Media Networks, Viacom Inc) and Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral (Starwood Hotels & Resorts) for the invitation to head up to the Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral (Aloft KL Sentral) to experience the kick-start of the “Live at Aloft Hotels” collaboration between MTV and Aloft Hotels.

However, due to a flight delay, I missed most of the set by The Light Fantastic, a malaysian female duo. Booo. I actually only arrived at the hotel in time to see them do their last 2 songs.

Oh well. You guys can go check out The Light Fantastic at the W XYZ bar (Ground Floor) every Friday from 7.00 – 9.00 pm.

That said, the W XYZ bar is pretty cool. If you want to just chill/hang out with your friends, they have games lying around the place which you can play. It’s really cozy.

The highlight amongst all the games that they have placed in various places of the ground floor is the Kinect console at the lift lobby.

In line with the Aloft Hotels collaboration with MTV, they loaded “Just Dance 4″ into the XBox console. And needless to say, it is very hard to resist not trying to play a song or two before you take the lift up to your room to retire for the night when you come back from wherever in the day.

I don’t know really know how to explain this but there’s a very interesting thing that goes on around the Xbox Kinect at most times of the day.

Most people would feel very shy about playing “Just Dance 4″ in a public space but when they see no one/not many people around, they give it a go and the next thing you know, people will start gathering behind the player(s). Haha.

On the Friday night that I arrived, I saw some guys in office wear who came to the hotel for some drinks at the rooftop bar and then they started playing “Just Dance 4″. It was quite an entertaining sight I must say. Hahaha. I was so temped to make an Instavid of them but I dropped the idea in the end so as not to invade into their privacy.

So yes, you can pop into the Aloft Hotel lobby to lounge/chill at the W XYZ bar or give the Kinect a go if you have a few hours to spare; especially if you are en route to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport via KL Sentral.

Aloft KL Sentral is right beside the KL Sentral building. Just look for the KLIA Ekpress Departure Hall, EXIT the building and turn LEFT. Aloft KL Sentral is across the street. Check out the map as well.
