Courvoisier presented the latest edition of the Courvoisier Live & Exclusif series with a performance by Sensation at Dragonfly, St James Power Station on 19 July 2012.
Sensation the newly formed jazz band fronted by Golden Melody Award winner Gary Chaw, Adriano “Gao Fei” Moreira on drums, Martin “Musa” Musaubach on keyboard and Luataro “Luka” Belluca on the bass.

The just a bit more than 1 hour showcase saw Sensation performing about 12 or 13 songs mostly from their recently released English jazz album “Project Sensation 1. JAZZ”.
Here’s the setlist (I missed the first 1 or 2 songs, do tell me what they are if you know):
- Every Time U Go Away
- Fly Me To The Moon
- Close To You (Carpenters)
- 甜蜜蜜 (邓丽君)
- 月亮代表我的心 (邓丽君)
- 背叛
- My Way
- 听海 (张惠妹)
- Change The World (Eric Clapton)
- Someone Like You (Adele, not the full song)
- Saving All My Love (Whitney Houston. not the full song)
- 世界唯一的妳 with a mash up at the beginning with Mariah Carey’s Hero
月亮代表我的心 is apparently unrehearsed and not part of the original setlist. In fact, after performing that song, Gary crushed the setlist and said something along the lines of “screw it, who needs a setlist” and started asking the audience what songs did they want to hear, much to their delight.
Also, at that point, my camera decided to display the low battery icon and I could only take photos. What timing. 🙁
Anyway, Gary Caw’s fans in the crowd were obviously unfamiliar with the English jazz numbers since Gary usually does mandarin songs. Needless to say, when he sang 背叛, the audience went mad. Halfway through the song, he told the band to play it with a bossanova feel and I must say it was quite nice.
Towards the end of the set, the audience started to shout “encore” but in the din of the fans blowing whistles (highly annoying I must add), Gary misheard “encore” as “uncle” and he was wondering why the fans are calling him “uncle”. That part was quite hilarious actually.
All in all, it was definitely very interesting to hear Gary Caw/曹格 singing English jazz. He did a pretty good job really.
Here are the videos of his performance to judge for yourself:
My favourite song of the night, Fly Me To The Moon (an original):
