안나라수마나라 (Annarasumanara), The Play Post Mortem

I was in Seoul recently (before the coronavirus lockdown drama) and I decided to watch the play “안나라수마나라’ (Annarasumanara)” at UpStage on 21 & 23 February 2020. I specifically wanted to watch this play when I was in Seoul because Gohyeon and Luha are part of the cast.

“안나라수마나라’ (Annarasumanara)” is based on a webtoon series by Ha Ii-Kwon. The story revolves around 2 high school students, Yoon Ah and Na Il-Deung (played by Luha). The direction in their life changed when they encountered a mysterious magician (played by Gohyeon) at an abandoned amusement park.

This is the first time I’m watching a play in Seoul, in the Korean language even, so I did not really know what to expect. I was surprised by how I managed to understand what was going on based on the context and performance of the cast even though I barely knew any Korean. It was a pretty cool experience I’d say.

I really like how the actors interacted with the audience during the performance. A male member of the audience was invited on stage to cheer for the sad magician in one of the scenes! The guy was then asked to act cute and all to to get the magician’s attention. The guy was pretty sporting and went along with it. It was absolutely hilarious and I was really impressed by how the magician (Gohyeon) managed to keep a straight face the entire time.

At the end of the performance, there was a photo-taking session with the cast members. I grabbed Luha immediately to sit with me as I’m too shy around Gohyeon.

If you are in Seoul, I’d recommend that you check this play out. Tickets are priced at 35,000 won (excluding fees). You can click here to buy your tickets from Interpark.

Here is the schedule for the rest of March 2020:
