Nelly Furtado The Spirit Indestructible Showcase in Singapore Post Mortem

I must say that Nelly Furtado’s showcase earlier at The Coliseum (RWS) was pretty fun! Honestly, while I like some of her songs, I’m not that big a fan of her voice. I do find it annoying at times; especially when I’m feeling frustrated for whatsoever reasons.

However, when Nelly Furtado is heard live, her voice isn’t annoying at all. It actually sounds very distinctively her. Very unique. Very interesting!

Anyway, at 8.35 pm, there was a DJ (didn’t catch the name, sorry) started to spin. The music wasn’t bad but I thought his 35 minute DJ set was a little too long.

Also, I think this is the first time I’ve had a DJ set at a showcase. Usually, a showcase just means a 30 ~ 45 minutes event with a setlist of 4 ~ 7 songs, a bit of a Q&A/fan interaction activities with the artist.

Before Nelly Furtado came on stage, the folks from Universal Music Singapore were walking around and distributing light sticks to everyone. When I got a hold of the light sticks, I realised that it wasn’t just an ordinary light stick! Universal Music Singapore actually got the light sticks customized to say “Big Hoops (The Bigger the better)”.

Cool right?

Anyway, Nelly Furtado came on stage at about 9.25 pm and did about 9 songs (including a medley) in the 50 minutes or so showcase.

Here’s a setlist for the showcase:

  1. Maneater
  2. Big Hoops
  3. Turn Off The Lights
  4. I’m Like a Bird
  5. Powerless (Say What You Want)
  6. The Spirit Indestructible
  7. Medley: a spanish/portuguese song, Give It To Me, Hot and Fun, Who Wants to be Alone, Night is Young and Jump
  8. Parking Lot
  9. Say It Right remixed with the guitar riffs of Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit

It’s getting late so I shall just end the entries with all the photos that came out ok during the showcase:
