Road Trip USA 2015: Antelope Canyon

We stayed overnight in Page, Arizona to take a local tour of the Antelope Canyon. We stayed near Lake Powell and it was really, really nice to wake up to this:

As we prepared to head over to the tour, we spotted lots of hot air balloons!! So pretty right!!

I found out later that it was really a stroke of luck for us to spot the hot air balloons! There was the Hot Air Balloon Regatta event that weekend and the weather was good enough for the hot air balloons to fly!

Anyway, this is Antelope Canyon:

The whole canyon is a lot shorter than I expected but it’s not short of amazing!

Interestingly, this is also the place where Britney filmed her music video “I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman”! Check it out!

My trip just got a Britney theme that I didn’t plan for. LOL.

From the photography perspective, Antelope Canyon is amazing!! Just a slight change in perspective and/or angle, you get a completely different photo! Just so you know, Antelope Canyon is made of sandstone and hence the rocks are essentially reddish-brown but check out what the lighting play can do!!

Among all the photos that I’ve taken, this one has got to be my most favourite:

I love the colours from the light play!!

Also, I need to clarify that the canyon is actually pretty crowded despite my photos. Try to take the earlier tours because it is not as crowded.

TIP: leave the selfie stick in the car/hotel room. It’s really stupid to use your selfie stick to take pictures in Antelope Canyon. If you want to take nice photos, don’t even think about using your mobile phone! At least bring a small auto-camera! That said, I totally made the right decision to lug my DSLR all the way to take the above photos. It was so worth the hassle. No regrets!

TIP: consider to take a helicopter tour as well because the aerial views are stunning!

I’d definitely try to visit Antelope Canyon again during my lifetime!
