I bumped into BOYFRIEND unexpectedly when I attended Kevin Woo’s Kosmic concert in Japan last year. Turns out that they were also holding their own concert at the same venue. It was definitely a very pleasant surprise. Back then, they were promoting under the name BF and I learned from fellow fans that YoungMin did not participate as he was still serving in the military.
You might not know but I have been a longtime (but quiet) supporter of BOYFRIEND’s music; following their activities and collecting their Korean albums when they were active under Starship Entertainment. I was heartbroken when the group disbanded in 2019.
So when I heard that BOYFRIEND had regained the rights to their original group name and were set to release a new Japanese album titled “Time Limit”, I was ecstatic!! This Japanese comeback included all 6 members and I knew that I would not want to miss it. It’s been years since they returned as a 6-piece and the excitement was overwheleming!
On 8 February 2025, the day that I had been eagerly anticipating for months, I attended the “Time Limit” fansign event at FC Live. This is when I finally got the opportunity to meet YoungMin face to face. I was so nervous and such a wreck.
When it was my turn, I blurted out, “OMG, YoungMin!!! I’m so happy to see you! My name is Emily!! And I am from Singapore!! I flew all the way to Japan just to meet you and BOYFRIEND!!” I don’t think I breathed while all those words came out while I was jumping up and down. Despite me being a mess, YoungMin was calm and attentive, listening intently to every word I said.
When I looked into his eyes, all the nerves I had been feeling melted away and I felt a sense of calm and a smile was creeping on my face. YoungMin then responded with a heartfelt, “Thank you so much for coming and supporting.” This made my heart race with happiness, and I became a mess again. “I LOVE YOU!”, I gushed as I waved goodbye while moving on. The ever so kind YoungMin made a heart with his hands, and I was gone.
The twins, KwangMin and YoungMin, are my bias but there’s a special place in my heart for KwangMin. before the fansign event, I was rehearsing some Korean phrases that I was planning to say to him. However, when KwangMin said to me, “안녕, 오랜만에네! (Hi, it’s been a long time since we met)”
I have yet to fully recover from YoungMin and KwangMin does this to me. My mind went completely blank and whatever I was had rehearsed from before just went out the window. In a daze, I ended up turning to JeongMin and said hello to him instead. I wanted to slap myself for the gaffe.
It must have been so obvious and funny to Jeongmin seeing that I was so nervous around KwangMin. I’m not sure if KwangMin noticed but I was blushing like crazy the entire time. I know that KwangMin was saying some things to me but it didn’t really register in my brain. I only remember his eyes, his smile and those hearts he made.
The “Time Limit” fansign event was everything that I had hoped for and more. While I didn’t really remember everything that happened, it was an experience that I will cherish forever. I’m so glad and thankful that I got to meet the member of BOYFRIEND in person after so many years of supporting them.
