The JOVEN.AT.HEART 2015 List of Best and Worst

This year has been relatively quiet on the celebrity, music and entertainment circuit for me due to various reason but regardless, the year hasn’t been any less crazy than the years that had passed.

I know that I keep saying that the year has been crazy and it would be hard to top it but the next year, I somehow managed to. LOL.

Anyway, as per tradition, here is the list of “Best and Worst of 2015”. This list is by no means scientific but it’s purely from my own biased experience and what left such an impression in my head for the year 2015.

BEST MUSICAL DISCOVERY OF 2015: Charlie Puth & Jessi

After discovering Meghan Trainor last year, it’s quite natural to notice Charlie Puth because they had worked together on his first single “Marvin Gaye” with Meghan Trainor.

I did the retro 50s ~ 60s sound so Charlie Puth is a natural blimp on my radar when he popped up on the scene.

I need to mention Jessi as well. I’m not even sure how I got to know about her now that I think about it. Jessi is straight up badass and flaming!

It’s probably because of her appearance on Unpretty Rapstar and all the kpop circle folks started talking about her and then I knew of her existence I guess.

I managed to watch her perform a little when I went to the live broadcast of MTV The Show when I was in Seoul a couple of months back and damn she’s good!

I will look forward to what else Jessi will bring to the music scene in South Korea.

WORST MUSICAL DISCOVERY OF 2015: None!

Thank god that there hasn’t been any stupid songs that went viral in 2015. THANK GOD!!

BEST CONCERT OF 2015: McBusted (Melbourne), Super Junior D&E (Taipei) & Liang Wen Fu (Singapore)

I really couldn’t choose 1. I tried but I really couldn’t.

I love McFly and I was really glad that I decided to fly down to Australia to catch McBusted on tour. Coz right now, at this point of writing, all plans for the proper McBusted tour in Australia and Singapore for the first half of 2016 went up in smoke with the announcement of the Busted reunion. I honestly don’t know when will I get to watch McFly/McBusted again…

Super Junior D&E made the list because it’s Super Junior and they are D&E. I ship D&E so hard and I don’t deny to be one of those fangirls who would really love for them to get married because they are such #RelationshipGoals. Also, their on stage antics and chemistry made the concert so much fun and it’s also the last time that I got to see them before they enlisted for their mandatory military service. It’ll be 2018 before I will get to see them in action again… *sob*

Liang Wen Fu. You have no idea how much I ship him. He is not a singer, in fact, he is an Associate Professor (Adjunct) in the Chinese Division of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). So why would I ship a University Associate Professor you ask. It’s simple, he is an extremely talented and prolific songwriter in the world of Chinese music on top of being an AP. So when I found out that he was doing a one-off concert, I had to go. No questions about it. Thank you 玖健哥哥 once again for pestering him to make the concert happen.

WORST CONCERT OF 2015: Andrew McMahon (Terrible Sound at CHIJMES Hall, Singapore)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that Andrew McMahon is terrible. I’m just saying that the sound setup and acoustics of the concert venue was terrible and it’s the worst among all the concerts that I’ve attended in 2015.

BEST CELEBRITY ENCOUNTER OF 2015: Super Junior Choi Siwon (Singapore)

I don’t think I need to explain this one. It’s no secret how much I love Siwon. LOL. So yeah, fangirl dream come true when I finally got an autograph from him. I’m still waiting for the day to get a selfie with him. LOL.

WORST CELEBRITY ENCOUNTER/NON-ENCOUNTER OF 2015: Super Junior Choi Siwon (Los Angeles)

Hahahaha. Yes. It was the worst. I swear to god that I didn’t know that Siwon had an appearance in LA when I booked my flight for that YOLO trip to the West Coast of USA.

So imagine my surprise when fellow fans started to blow up my phone to tell me that Siwon was headed to LA.

Unfortunately, I was on the way back from Las Vegas when Siwon had his appearances in Los Angeles. And even though I was a 10 minutes drive away from LAX and I had guessed correctly when he would depart LA for Seoul, I didn’t go and try my luck because jetlag and he left at around 4 am (PT).

So yeah, worst celebrity non-encounter of 2015.

2018년에 다시 만나자.

  3. Falling sick from the Haze
  4. Super Camp Seoul
  5. The passing of a colleague, Paul Volchok
In closing…

Compared to 2014, 2015 definitely looks way crazier. While there were more great memories than 2014 in comparison, the bad memories from 2015 were pretty hard-hitting.

The passing of the late Lee Kuan Yew and Paul Volchok hit me pretty bad for their different reasons.

After the minor car accident back in 2014, I have become extremely sensitive to death and got even more determined to YOLO. In fact, I never stopped to properly rest and recover from the whiplash. The truth was, I’ve been feeling a lot of the pain and headaches throughout 2015. I just might be forced to really stop and to recover properly or else my problems will turn chronic and permanent.

Also, an illness that struck at home and it was another slap in the face to remind me that I am human and I’m not invincible or immortal.

Despite the morbid sounding outlook, a lot of my pain have gotten a lot better, just that it wouldn’t recover 100% because I just keep going. I don’t know how to stop to be honest. I don’t want to as well. Haha.

Anyway, the dog with the attitude at home will be keeping me in check for sure. She is taking up so much of my time and energy as she gets more comfortable and hence naughty as the days go by.

Here’s to a healthy and happy 2016 everyone!
