Believe it or not, I went to Tokyo for fun and there was absolutely no Kpop on the agenda at all for me. However, it seems like Kpop followed me. LOL. I can’t get away from it.
I was waiting for my friend to buy a kebab at the food stand when I noticed that there was some commotion across the road and there was this group of guys with dyed and styled hair making quite a bit of noise. So naturally, out of curiosity, my eyes followed them as they moved along.
As they got closer, I noticed that there were fan girls with their huge ass DSLRs following them and taking photos. Needless to say, the fan girl alarm sounded in my head and I knew they had to be some group or something. The only problem was, I have no idea who they hell they were.
As fate would have it, they crossed the road over to my side and at the same time, my friend was done with her purchase. Naturally, I convinced my friend to follow these guys because they look quite cute (duh!), must be somebody and therefore, I kinda want to find out who they are. Hahaha.

As as we followed them down the street to wherever they are going, I noticed they were wearing t-shirts of the same design and I saw that the staff had their own t-shirts as well. However, like I said, I had absolutely no idea who they are but I definitely heard someone speaking in Korean so I thought, maybe they are a Japanese boyband who is dabbling in Kpop or something. LOL.
Unfortunately, the street was narrow and there was no way we could try to run ahead and see all their faces from the front. The staff saw us filming/taking photos with our phones as we trying to get ahead so naturally, they assumed that we are fans and kept shoo-ing us not to follow too closely. As a result, I never got to see how many of them there are in the group. LOL. And I only saw the last 3 members who were walking behind; namely, Hyunwoong, Sejin and Doyol. (Shoutout to @yue_choo for always helping me to figure out who is who in 14U!!)

I saw that they were distributing flyers so I went to ask for one of it from the guys that I now know is named Sejin. I looked at the flyer and thought, “Hang on. They are not Japanese. They are Kpop for sure.”

So I turned to Sejin and asked in Korean, “혹시 한국 그롭이에요?” (Are you guys a Korean group?) and he said something to me in Japanese. LOL. I must have had the “!!????” face so he just said, “한국”. Super awkward and funny short exchange.
Also, while walking, Hyunwoong asked, “Where are you from?” in English!! He was surprised when he found out we were from Singapore and then he started spewing quite a few English slangs and phrases. Very funny as well. Hahahaha.
So anyway, they walked into this building and we stopped following them. I thought they were going for dinner or something but I later realised that when we bumped into them on the streets, they were on a street promotion walk just before their 2nd show of the day and that building they walked into was the showcase venue.

Needless to say, after the chance encounter on the street, we went to google who these people are. It was then that we found out they are called 14U and it should be pronounced as “One For You” and not “Fourteen U”. Hahaha. Oops. They are a 14-member rookie Kpop boyband with BG Entertainment who debut in July 2017 with a song entitled “VVV”.
In that 5 minutes or so where we followed them down the street, we managed to establish that Sejin is super adorable/cute one and that Hyunwoong is a visual. And it seems like he used to be an ulzzang as well….? Whatever it is, the official photos on the flyer wasn’t doing any of them any justice; they definitely look better in person.
When we re-looked at their flyer after the google search, from the few Chinese characters, I saw that tickets for their showcase was 4,500 yen (~S$54). However, when we got a friend to help us read the Japanese on the flyer, we found out that since it is our first time to watch them, we could enter for free!! I don’t say no to free showcase performance so we started to shuffle our tourist plans to attend their show.
I must add that after spotting 14U on the streets, I actually bumped into a subset of them on the streets again for 2 more times. What luck right!! Each time, I was waiting for my friend to buy a kebab at the same stall. LOL. Thereafter, I kept asking my friend to buy a kebab at that particular stall just to see if 14U will show up again. Hahahaha. Sadly, she refused. Boo.
Anyway, watch out for the post mortem review of their showcase in the next post!
