The hit MTV series Punk’d returns to MTV Asia starting from 10 June 2012 after a 5 year break. Man, how time flies!
If you don’t already know, Punk’d is about playing super elaborate pranks on the Hollywood celebrities. And it is really awesome because you get to see how smart/stupid/nice/bitchy they are.
In this returning season, Ashton Kutcher remains as an executive producer but he hands the hosting responsibilities a different celebrity each week and have them punk’d their unsuspecting famous friends. I actually miss Ashton Kutcher and his bitchy little introductions and background to the pranks. He was partly what made the series fun!
Anyway, the cool people at MTV Asia handed me the first 2 episodes of this new season to preview. This new season feels so much tamer compared to the first few seasons. I will never forget how Justin Timberlake was practically in tears for the first ever prank on Punk’d. It was such a legendary moment.
The first prank was by Justin Bieber on Taylor Swift. It is not brutal by past standards but it was pretty harsh. Haha. Poor Taylor Swift was led to believe that she ruined a wedding. She was close to tears and they quickly ended the prank. Bummer. It is the bit where they celebrities break down that makes the prank epic! Justin Bieber actually wanted to make Taylor Swift cry. So did I. Hahaha. But the producers were pretty firm about not making her cry. Oh well.
Other Bieber pranks actually felt a bit flat to me. I think it’s partly because of the show/producer’s policy not to take the joke too far. Boo. I though the joke could actually go a bit further before they stopped it.
In the second episode, Bam Margera from Jackass was the host. When you get guys from the Jackass crew, you know you’re in for some major fun. True enough, Bam’s pranks were so much more fun than Bieber’s.
My favourite prank from the 2 episodes has got to be the one with Jersey Shore’s Ronnie. That was really funny. He was put in a situation where he had to be a negotiator at a convenience store robbery. While “negotiating” with the hostage-taker, he was asked ridiculous questions like “how would you rate your muscles on a scale of one to ten?” and he actually answered it in his shocked state without realising how stupid the whole thing was. This is the kind of prank that we’re talking about man. Epic!!
The prank with Tyler The Creator was quite good too. Tyler’s reaction was hilarious. When a taco truck bursts into flames, he starts videoing the whole thing before he realises how “serious” the situation was and goes “OH SHIT!”.
