2012 MTV Europe Music Awards Post Mortem

Earlier this morning, a bunch of us bloggers and media people gathered at the MTV Asia office in Singapore for a special screening of the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards.

Honestly, it wasn’t as fun as the VMAs because the EMA screening wasn’t live and most of us were reading up on overnight tweets and we already knew the results and were mostly there for the performances, to hang out/catch up with each other and of coz, eat free food (duh). LOL.

Still, it was very fun to watch the MTV EMAs at the special screening because we’d be watching the show in our various groups and judging the fashion, performances and winners like it was a house/slumber party. Hehe. Fetch.

The 2012 MTV EMAs was quite tame compared to previous years because there was no crazy in attendance. Apart from Kim Kardashian nearly falling over on stage, it was pretty much about all the drama that occurred at the EMAs. Really zzzzz on the gossip factor.

That said, it actually forced/allowed us to focus on the original cause of a MTV award show: the music and performance.

My favourite performances from the show were Psy’s “Gangnam Style”, No Doubt’s “Looking Hot” and fun.’s “We Are Young”. Alicia Key’s medley of “New Day” and “Girl on Fire” was pretty cool too!

Also, I would like to add that I’m really happy and proud of Psy for nabbing the “Best Video” for “Gangnam Style” and Hangeng for bringing back to Asia the “Best Worldwide Act” trophy. REPRESENT!

I thought Psy’s acceptance speech was really cool:

First of all, I like to thank MTV EMA. This is too much, thank you. Can I have a minute because I am a rookie, I’ve got a lot to tell. I like to thank each and every one all around the world who is supporting Psy, who is supporting Gangnam Style and who is supporting my video, I thank you so much.

Psy also expressed his appreciation for his management and family, especially his wife of 6 years.

I was actually pretty surprised that Hangeng spoke in English when he started his thank you speech! After like one or two sentences, he switched back to speaking Mandarin. LOL. Anyway, here is the gist of what he said during his acceptance speech:

Wow! This is very exciting for me, winning the prestigious MTV EMA Worldwide Act award. A heartfelt thank you to MTV, my company and team mates, and special thanks to my amazing fans whose unwavering support is the reason why I get to bring this award back to Asia, back to China. I like to give credit to fellow musicians and all the other talented people who have dedicated their passion and hard work to making good music. With eyes of the global audience on me, I feel incredibly honored with this recognition and I am proud to represent my country. I hope for continuous support to Han Geng and to Chinese music. I love China. I love my art and I love all the music fans out there!

I’m still a bit sad and sore that it ain’t my Super Junior boys who are holding the “Best Worldwide Act” trophy but oh well.
