I was going through the Comedy Central Asia first look screening room and I watched an original sketch-comedy programme called “Key & Peele”. They should actually come up with a more descriptive and creative name for their show really. If I actually came across the name of the show in a TV listing, I would have thought it was a melodrama or some home makeover reality show.
I decided to give the show a go (since I didn’t want to start another Korean drama series… just yet) and I sure had a good laugh.
Key & Peele are basically 2 dudes (Keegan-Michael Key & Jordan Peele) who looks at life in a combination of sketches and live stage segments. They are known for their comedy improvisation, original characters (they conjured) and celebrity impressions.
In the 2 episodes of season 1 that I watched from the screening room, I must say that the sketch that left the deepest impression is the Barack Obama and the anger translation one. Jordan’s impression of Barack Obama is SPOT ON. OMG. The accent and mannerisms are practically identical!
There was also one of Lil’ Wayne. That one is quite funny as well. In fact, when the sketch first started, I thought it was the real Lil’ Wayne on the show. Hahaha. It was about 1 minute into the thing before I realised it was actually Jordan Peele. OTL
There were other pretty funny sketches as well and I actually like them more than the live stage segments. Also, I must say that I have managed to bring back a little of my Americanism and catch the jokes and innuendos made.
