I got an email from the Comedy Central Asia folks that the award winning sitcon-chat show hybrid format ‘The Kumars at No. 42’ is coming to the Comedy Central Asia Channel come 11 December 2014.

It’s been a long time since I had kept up with British stuff like The Kumars. They are hilarious!! The Grandmother is awesome!!

For those of you who are not familiar, here’s how the gist of what ‘The Kumars at No. 42’ is about:

The Kumars are a well-off family, whose spoilt son (Sanjeev Bhaskar) fancies himself as chat show host. To facilitate this, his mum (Indira Joshi) and dad (Vincent Ebrahim) bulldozed their back garden and built a studio on the back of their house.

Each week Sanjeev attempts to interview two celebrity guests, while fending off interruptions from his parents and his grandmother (Meera Syal).

The stuff that The Kumars says are semi-scripted and the celebrity guests for the week gets to say whatever they want about whatever they like. The Kumars then improvise as they go along.

I don’t remember specifically how I got to know about ‘The Kumars at No. 42’ but I definitely remember that the 2003 Comic Relief single ‘Spirit In The Sky’ by Gareth Gates featuring The Kumars (which went to #1 on the charts by the way) had something to do with it. Hahaha.

This song sure brings back lots of memories. Hahahaha. I remember singing a chorus of this very song with Mr Gareth Gates himself at his appearance at Suntec City when he came to Singapore back in 2004 for the MTV Asia Awards. Hahaha. There is an mp3 recording of me singing somewhere out there. Hahahaha. Oh god.
