I am actually a little miffed by how a few people do not know who Liang Wen Fu is. XD
Liang Wen Fu is a prolific Singaporean song-writer who has more than 200 songs to his name. He has also written many songs for the top artists in the Chinese market as well, Jacky Cheung, Leon Lai, Andy Lau, Stefanie Sun, Kit Chan to name a few.
On top of that, Liang Wen Fu is also an adjunct assistant professor at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and he also lectures at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the National Institute of Education (NIE).

Anyway, the concert started at 8.05 pm with a video before Liang Wen Fu took to the stage with “新加坡派 (Singapore Pie)”. I could hear the nerves in his voice during the opening song; which isn’t surprising because this is the first time ever he is putting on a full concert in his 35 years career. Besides, he is a songwriter and academia more than a singer so it was completely understandable. After all, Liang Wen Fu can do no wrong. LOL. #biased #bigfan
After the first song, Liang Wen Fu took the time to thank his friends and chat with the audience. When he started talking, you can tell that he switch into his professor/lecturer mode and was more comfortable standing on the stage. Hahaha. Everything was just perfection after that.
Throughout the 4 hours and 20 minutes long concert (including a 15 minutes break), Liang Wen Fu shared many stories behind the songs and the friendships that were forged during the songwriting, producing and/or performing process.
It was also pretty amazing how he got almost all the original singers of his songs to show up and sing at the concert. Shame that Andy Lau couldn’t make it though. LOL. That would have been a real surprise.
I have to share this story behind the song “历史考试前夕 (Before The History Exam)”. Liang Wen Fu was burning the midnight old studying for his Chinese History exam when he wrote this song (duh!). After he wrote the song, he called up a friend to sing the demo and that friend later became his wife. How cute is that?!?!
As his students said, “Teacher, you are so amazing! Others would serenade their girlfriend with a love song but you sang to your wife about the history of China!” LOL… though Liang Wen Fu did clarify that at that point when he sang to her, she wasn’t his girlfriend yet.
There was also a video message from Kit Chan, Stephanie Sun, JJ Lin, Eric Mo, Andy Lau and Jacky Cheung among others before the 2nd half of the concert started. The gasps in the audience when Andy Lau and Jacky Cheung sent their congrats and well wishes to Liang Wen Fu was really audible. Haha. Liang Wen Fu is legendary people.
In fact, to me, Liang Wen Fu is a gem and national treasure up there along with Dick Lee and the late Iskandar Ismail. The 3 of them have done so much for the music scene and totally deserves to be recorded in the history of Singapore. That said, I hope they release a DVD of this concert to document the works and milestones achieved by Liang Wen Fu. I’m definitely buying a copy if they really release it.
