Madonna Rebel Heart Tour 2016 Singapore Post Mortem

So yeah, my friend talked me into buying the S$588 ticket to watch Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour in Singapore last night, 28 February 2016 at the National Stadium.

I was quite reluctant to buy the ticket at this price because I felt that the ticket price was too steep. So many concerts I’ve been to, this is definitely the most expensive concert ticket I’ve ever bought (if you just consider the ticket price by itself).

Also, I wasn’t that big a fan of Madonna even though I was curious to watch her concert after hearing so much about what a legend she is. I was even prepared to give this concert a miss even though it’s touted by many to be a concert of the year.

So long story short, yeah, I bought the ticket and this was my view of the stage last night (without using any zoom on my iPhone):

Technically, I could see the stage but it was still too far. This is what I saw when Madonna took the stage (with a bit of zoom):

Anyway, after all the controversy about “Holy Water”, the concert overall was super tame and a little underwhelming, in part because of the venue was too large for a stage designed for an arena tour.

However, if think about it, Madonna is 57 years old this year, so it was one helluva concert! I don’t even know if I can do half the things she did if you asked me right now. Hahaha. She is pretty amazing if you put things into perspective like that.

Madonna took to the stage at 8.50 pm (so early right? LOL.) opening with “Bitch I’m Madonna” and she closed the show with “Unapologetic Bitch” at 10.50 pm. She returned 3 minutes later to perform “Holiday”, a 1 song encore before she left the stage for real at 11.00 pm. Through the entire 2 hours and 10 minutes or so, I’m pretty sure she was singing live the entire time because I could hear how she was kinda panting at a few points during the concert.

The time keeping during the concert was impeccable; and I don’t expect any less from such a seasoned veteran like Madonna. Even though there were times where she was talking, which was very clearly a chance for her to rest and catch her breath, it didn’t feel like she was purposely trying to waste time to extend the concert duration. (It’s a very common trick used in a lot of performances.)

Check out how fit Madonna still is. I am really ashamed of myself and I really should start exercising and get a bit fitter like I keep saying I will for the last X years. LOL.

Also, I like her stage very much! That LED screen that was also the stage flooring thing is so cool!!

I also like the acrobatic pole routine during “Illuminati”. So cool!

It was a very high quality stage production and I can see why the total concert bill came up to about S$14 million.

So overall, was the concert worth S$588? Probably not; it feels like it should be priced at S$328 or somewhere around there. However, like what my friend said, the money spent can be earned back and this is probably the first and last time to see Madonna in concert in Singapore as this is very likely going to be Madonna’s last tour. (She doesn’t have much time left on her contract with Live Nation and it’s been said that she might not renew!)

There are no regrets paying this crazy money to watch Madonna because bitch, she’s Madonna.
