Imagine Dragons closed the 2016 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix last night with a 1.5 hour set at the Padang Stage.

I felt a bit bad for Imagine Dragons because they had to close the F1 weekend and impress a mostly generic crowd who had been wowed by Kylie Minogue and Queen + Adam Lambert over the previous 2 nights. Imagine Dragons has got a very high bar to take down; but really, how does anyone outdo Queen??

The generic audience was apparent because at a regular concert, the entire audience would generally start cheering within the first 4 beats or so of a song because they recognised the song but throughout the entire 1.5 hours, almost none of that happened. Sure there were pockets of mega fans present but not enough to make an impact to the atmosphere at such a large scale concert.

There was a moment when the audience started screaming and I thought, “oh hey!” then I realised that it was because Dan took off his shirt.

Okay.

Dan gave his all; there was no doubt about that. He ran all over the stage for almost the entire performance. It was so difficult to get a nice shot of him because he wouldn’t stop running around!!

At one point, Dan went down to the audience as well!

I was right beside the barricade down the middle and to be honest, when I saw Dan heading down the middle, I was like, “Please don’t come over! Please don’t come over!” in my head. LOL.

While I like artist and fan interactions, I don’t like being squashed by a few hundred people. Also, do you know how gross the artist are when they are dripping in sweat? I had once hugged a sweat drenched artist after they got off stage and man, ew.

Still, Imagine Dragons still put on a good performance in their own right. Shoutout to the light programmer; the light effects were pretty damn cool!

Anyway, Dan said that Imagine Dragons will be back next year so here’s waiting!
