The second and final day of Hyperplay, the first integrated ASEAN esports and music festival started with an MTV Spotlight performance from Thai rock band Slot Machine at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on 5 August 2018.
The electrifying performance of Slot Machine consists of the following songs in their set list:
- Burning Stars
- Rue Du (Grey Sky)
- Pharn (Yesterday)
- Spin The World
- Chan Chao (Goodbye)
Thereafter, Indonesia idol Afgan took to the stage for another MTV Spotlight performance. Afgan serenaded the audience at the Singapore Indoor Stadium with the following set list:
- Love Again
- Knock Me Out
- Count on Me
- Panah Asmara
There was no doubt about the charms from Afgan judging from the amount of screaming fans.
Once Afgan left the stage, the excitement quickly mounted for the League of Legends (LoL) grand finals which sees Vietnam’s Super Star Destroyers play off against Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur Hunters. Once the game started, things escalated really quickly. Team Malaysia’s ArrHedge led a rampage on the get go and just slaughtered Team Vietnam to take an initial lead.
Team Vietnam put up a strong defence against Team Malaysia but Team Malaysia was on a roll. And after a massive bloodbath of 63 kills, Team Malaysia broke through and emerged victorious and was crowned the first ever Hyperplay League of Legends Champions! Well deserved and good job!
After crowning Team Malaysia as the champions, Alessia Cara made her Singapore debut on the MTV Spotlight stage with the following set list:
- Wild Things
- How Far I’ll Go
- A Little More
- Scars To Your Beautiful
- Growing Pains
The loudest cheers for the night was no doubt reserved for Nick Jonas. He noted how the last time was in Singapore, he was here with his brothers. Riding solo now, Nick Jonas rocked the MTV Spotlight stage with the following set list:
- Under You

It was a spectacular end to a spectacular weekend that was the inaugural Hyperplay. It was no doubt fun even though I am no gamer. I found myself getting into the atmosphere of the crowd as the two teams battled it out in the game on stage. I started to get all excited whenever there was a massive battle and was groaning and cheering along with the rest of the stadium. Pretty amazing experience I must say.
Here’s to the next edition of Hyperplay next year~
