Chunxi Road (春熙路)

Chunxi Road is a must visit for all the shopperholics. It’s the main shopping street/pedestrian mall in Chengdu. You can find all the major brand on/around this road. Honestly, the stuff that you find in Chunxi Road is not exactly cheap. They are mostly international brands/labels and they’re the same price and at most a dollar or two cheaper than in Singapore. They have some … Continue reading Chunxi Road (春熙路)

Daci Monastery (大慈寺)

Daci Monastery was another stop in our itinerary. Situated in the middle of Chengdu, it is the largest Buddhist monastery at the time when it was built (622 AD). It was in this temple that Master Xuan Zang (三藏法师玄奘) was initiated into monkhood. Master Xuan Zang is the monk in the “Journey To The West” stories. I actually didn’t know he was real. Haha. I … Continue reading Daci Monastery (大慈寺)

Ancient Town of Luodai (洛带客家古镇)

Arriving back into Chengdu from Dujiangyan, the first sight we visited was the Sansheng Flower Village (三圣花乡). It wasn’t a big deal. Just lots of flowers. After that, we headed to the ancient town of Luodai. It’s the biggest Hakka Town in West China. Legend goes that the Emperor Liu Chan of the Three Kingdoms era lost his belt  in this small town and hence … Continue reading Ancient Town of Luodai (洛带客家古镇)

Dujiangyan Irrigation System (都江堰工程)

From Shuimo Town (水磨镇), we headed to visit the Dujiangyan Irrigation System (都江堰工程). I think it’s one of the most amazing things ever from ancient China! From Wikipedia: Dujiangyan (Chinese: 都江堰; pinyin: Dūjiāngyàn) is an irrigation infra-structure built in 256 BC during the Warring States Period of China by the Kingdom of Qin. It is located in the Min River (Chinese: 岷江; pinyin: Mínjiāng) in Sichuan province, China, near the capital Chengdu. It is still in use today to irrigate over 5,300 square kilometers of … Continue reading Dujiangyan Irrigation System (都江堰工程)

Shuimo Town (水磨镇)

We arrived in Shuimo Town in time for lunch at this restaurant: I had to single out this restaurant because the food is simply delicious!! It’s the best meal on the entire tour! The vegetables were fresh, the soup was tasty and the meat (yak!) was tender! Awesome! (You can email me if want their address and/or number for reservations. Walk-in is possible.) Anyway, before … Continue reading Shuimo Town (水磨镇)

The journey from Maoxian to Shuimo Town

We left our hotel in Maoxian (茂县) and headed towards Dujiangyan (都江堰). The bus stopped to refuel and I saw a bunch of natives setting up shop to sell their produce. The tomatoes in the basket were massive!! It’s almost the size of my hand! Also, the walnuts they were selling were freshly plucked from the trees! It was the freshest walnuts I’ve ever tasted! … Continue reading The journey from Maoxian to Shuimo Town

Huang Long Scenic and Historic Interest Area

Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area is called as such because from the air, the yellow long and winding landscape (shaped by the meanders and the scale-shaped water pools) looks like a yellow dragon. Before we left on our trip, we have heard many people commenting on how tough the trip will be. I also did some research before the trip and found out that … Continue reading Huang Long Scenic and Historic Interest Area

Jiu Zhai Gou Scenic and Historic Interest Area

Jiuzhaigou Scenic and Historic Interest Area is definitely one of the most beautiful natural scenery places I’ve ever been in my life (so far and probably the rest of it as well). The sights and sounds are just pure amazing!! Rather than try to describe it, I’ll just show you coz a picture speaks a thousand words and add a little caption/description below it. A … Continue reading Jiu Zhai Gou Scenic and Historic Interest Area

Qiang Minority Ethnic Group Cultural Show

After arriving at our hotel in Jiuzhaigou (九寨沟), we first had dinner and a short rest before we went to watch a cultural showcase of the Qiang minority ethnic group (羌族). I wasn’t sure what to expect at the show really. While it’s quite clear that it’s a cultural show, I’m not sure what kind of culture to expect given that I know nuts about … Continue reading Qiang Minority Ethnic Group Cultural Show
