23:59 (the movie) is a is a horror thriller set in 1983 on an island used for military training. All the Singaporean guys and 2nd generation PR guys can definitely related to this movie. 🙂
The plot centers on 5 recruits and the haunting that happened during the final part of their military training. As with all campsites/military training camps, ghost stories are passed down from generation to generation, company to company.
With the number of army camp ghost stories that I’ve heard from all my male friends, I sometimes sound like I’ve been through the army myself. Hahaha. After this movie, all I can say is, THANK GOD I DO NOT HAVE TO SERVE IN THE ARMY.
I was genuinely spooked by the movie.
The scene where one of the recruits (“Chester”) got possessed by the spirit/ghost scared the hell out of me. The guy was so convincing! That was definitely a very standout performance for a newcomer. It’s his first movie I think.
There was another scene in the final part of the movie where I actually closed my eyes coz I was too scared to watch. Hahaha. So I don’t really know what happened in the end.
Also, Mark Lee’s performance is definitely something to look out for as well. He never fails to deliver with his comedic wit and timing. Seriously, why has he not won any major regional comedy acting award is beyond me. He’s such a gem (Watch “Ah Long Private Limited” and you’ll know why)!
The overall production was pretty good. The sound/music and dialogue in the movie were pretty good too. It would be awesome if the movie was distributed commercially around the Asia/ASEAN region.
I’d actually recommend this movie to anyone and everyone! It’s a good movie and totally deserves commercial success! Go support our local talent!
Here’s the trailer if you need more persuasion:
Movie opens island wide in Singapore on 3 November 2011. Check the cinema listings for show times.
On second thought, maybe it’s not such a good idea for the waiting to enlist 16 – 18 year olds to watch this movie. Hahaha.
